Well, hello everyone! I know, I know, I've been super inactive lately (DAMN YOU, UNI!), but hopefully I'll make up for that in the next few weeks. I'm just making a quick entry to say:

I really hope you had an awesome day, BB! ♥

So Spooks is back! YAYNESS! I MISSED YOU, SHOW.

Spooks 9.01 spoilers below!Collapse )
Overall, it was a pretty solid start to what will hopefully be a great series. Quick question- is BBC3 playing the episodes a week in advance like they did last series? I can't seem to find anything saying they are.

On a different note, I seem to have become completely and entirely obsessed with a band, of all things. Not since the heady childhood days of Five and the Spice Girls have I become this interested in a band. The subject of my obsession this time is a band called The Kills. I'm planning to do a massive post entailing just why they are the most awesome thing since sliced bread, but in the mean time, have this:

- First thing's first: HAPPY (BELATED) BIRTHDAY, trustingno1!!!

I'm super-late, but I hope you had a brilliant day, BB!

- I have a fic rec for everyone: the ever-wonderful thisiszircon has written another brilliant Ashes to Ashes fic called The Krypton Factor. If you haven't read any of her Ashes fics yet, then do so right away, because they are just fantastic. Favourite fic writer ever? I think so.

- Today I watched the second part of a UK drama called Bouquet of Barbed Wire which features the incredibly brilliant Hermione Norris, and I have to sya, I'm really loving it! It's super creepy and mysterious and thrilling and... everything, really. Hermione is wonderful in it, obviously, and did some very impressive/frightening yelling and crying, just to remind what a spectacularly good actress she is. Bring on Outcasts, I say!

- I seriously can't wait for it to come on! I read lots of spoilers (I tried not to, I really did, but I just couldn't resist) and I just can't wait. It's weird this year- generally the wait for Spooks seems to take forever, but this time around I wasn't even expecting it! Naturally, anything Harry/Ruth related is the thing I'm most looking forward to. Well, that and some Armitage hotness, of course...

- It's that time of year, actually, where everything is starting again: 30 Rock, Modern Family The Office, Grey's Anatomy (yes, I still watch it), Bones, Brothers and Sisters... everything except Parks and Rec. SO UNFAIR.

The lovely sometimesartist gave me Ashes to Ashes, Spooks and Wire in the Blood to talk about for this meme:
Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

So I've made it to that lovely time of the year where I'm completely and utterly bogged down by uni work. Why is it that all of the assignments always end up being due the same week? I've got 2 essays, 2 lab reports and a few tests due in the next week and a half. What fun!

I also have a Spooks fic to do for the spooky_doings ficathon which is supposed to be finished by the end of the month. In typical fashion, I haven't even started yet. Instead, I've made good progress on an Ashes to Ashes fic which I will probably never be brave enough to post. Sigh.

In the meantime sometimesartist has an awesome friending meme that you should all participate in:

- I'm doing this entry after Community Shield (GO UNITED!!!), and I'm ridiculously happy that football's back. I suppose it didn't particularly go away, what with the World Cup and all, but still... yay for the Premier League! My life is so much more boring without it, as sad as that may be! Man United were pretty damn awesome to win it- I think I'm officially in love with Chicharito (Javier Hernandez). He's going to be a superstar.

- Keeley on Would I Lie To You? was possibly the best thing ever. SO MUCH ADORABLENESS, I CAN'T EVEN-

Seriously, I was laughing so, so hard during the whole thing. Her giggling was just amazing, and I love that she kept getting flustered and fanning herself. I LOVE HER MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF.

- I haven’t updated my LJ in ages! I’ve been meaning to update for weeks, but I just keep getting distracted by shiny things such as Tumblr. Seriously, that site has taken over my life. Once you start looking on there, you can’t stop. It’s impossible to tear yourself away. I was on there for about 8-9 hours straight the other day- everytime I’d finished saving, liking and reblogging things, new stuff would turn up! It is so bloody evil!

- One reason I had so much to look at was that I went on a mini holiday from Sunday until Tuesday. My dad’s girlfriend booked rooms at the Windsor Hotel in the city (which is basically half an hour away from where I live), so my sister and I went along for the ride. It was… interesting. Very posh as well- the bathroom on the ground floor was called the “Lady’s Powder Room”, and each of the toilet stalls had a picture frame with its own light, which was both strange and rather unnecessary, if you ask me. Predictably, any food ordered from room service was RIDICULOUSLY expensive- a bowl of cereal cost $10!!! The only time that’d be acceptable is if it came with a bonus hot man who hand-fed it to you while massaging your neck. Toast was only $5 (I can’t believe I’m saying ‘only’ here), and I can’t figure out what makes cereal so much more expensive. One good thing about the hotel was that one of the door-opening dudes was really, really hot. As a consequence, I may or may not have made a few unnecessary trips out of that door over the course of the first day. Ahem…

- I got my uni results today! I got 77% in both Criminology and Sociology, which I was rather pleased with. My mark for Psychology just said withheld, which either means I didn't hand in the required work (which I know I did) or that they haven't finished marking the exams. I'm hoping for the latter, because I do not want to deal with the possibility of them having lost my work. I also got my timetable, which has also worked out rather well. I have to go in on 2 days, much like last semester. On Monday I'm there practically all day, and on Friday it's for about 4 hours, which is nothing to complain about.

-  Recently I've begun rewatching Spooks. I haven't even finished my Ashes to Ashes rewatch, which isn't surprising- I always end up part of the way through a million different shows. That's just how I roll. Anyway, I'd forgotten how much I loved Zoe and Danny! I remember staying up late to watch the show when I was 13 or 14, and even then, I remember absolutely adoring Keeley’s acting (and her wonderful face, of course), as well as and shipping Danny/Zoe. They are just so damn adorable! I never realised how many awesome deleted scenes there are featuring them. I just stated series 2- yay for Ruth!!! God I love this show.

- Talking of shows with Keeley Hawes in them, I’ve been watching Identity. I find it hard to give an unbiased opinion of this show- every scene that Keeley’s character Martha is in I love, but the rest of the show… It’s not bad, but it’s not exactly brilliant. The first episode was a little lame, but the second episode was definitely an improvement. I really wish the show centred on Martha rather than John Bloom, because I find her much more interesting. The tortured, wounded ex-undercover dude storyline has been done a MILLION times, and is unfortunately a little dull. I just hope they give Martha/Keeley more screen time soon. I seem to remember Keeley saying that in the last episode of the series they explore her character quite a bit, so there’s that to look forward to!

- As this is a (typically) Keeley-centred post, have some pictures! I have a ridiculous number of Keeley pictures on my computer, so I think I’m going to do a picspam soon, which should be interesting! In the meantime:

Keeley Hawes at the Ghost Stories press nightCollapse )

- So the World Cup has been over for almost a week, and I miss it so damn much! I have to say, I was really hoping Germany won- I kind of fell in love with the team over the course of the tournament- but there really is no beating Paul the Octopus! I swear, he looks so damn evil. I think the problem is, I can’t help but compare him to Dalek Caan from Doctor Who. Just look at the similarities!

- I'VE FINALLY FINISHED MY EXAMS. Thank god for that, because I am seriously sick of studying. I ended up writing near-on 50 pages of revision notes for each of my 3 subjects, which was awesome. I really don't mind studying and doing exams, but I was practically spending all day every day studying, which wasn't a lot of fun. Thankfully, my Sociology and Criminology exams were pretty easy. My Psychology one? Not so much. Hopefully I've done enough to pass, since it was worth 70% of my mark. Fingers crossed on that one.

- So, my thoughts on the Doctor Who finale and series altogether:

Spoilers!Collapse )

- Unsurprisingly, the World Cup has taken over my life. I've literally changed my whole sleep cycle around to fit it in. Here in Australia, the games are on at midnight and 4:30am, which makes things very interesting. It's been totally worth it so far- there's been so many amazing and absorbing games, and I just can't get enough. It helps that I'm practically a neutral supporter, which makes watching games a lot less stressful! It's just been awesome, and I'm really sad that there's only a few weeks left in the tournament...

For the record? I think Argentina will beat Brazil in the final 2-0. Let's see how that prediction pans out...

- What else has happened lately? Australia got our very first lady Prime Minister, which is... well, it's politics. All politicians suck, but at least she's a woman! The Tennis Match of Never-ending Epicness was pretty incredible (I felt so sorry for Mahut, and then for Isner after he got smashed in his next game. Oh, also, I have a brand new guilty pleasure TV show.

Let me introduce you to Dance Academy! It's one of those shows that is so atrociously bad that you can't help but love it. My sister and I stayed up ridiculously late to watch it, just because we simply couldn't stop. The main character is quite possibly the worst actress I've ever seen, which makes it even better to watch. It's so terrible, yet at the same time, so addictive, which is one evil, evil combination.

- I'm eventually going to start that 30 day Ashes to Ashes meme, simply because I really can't quit that show. I'm in the middle of a rewatch now, and I can't get over how much I love every single episode. Favourite show ever? I'm certainly starting to think so.

First thing's first: yes, I am still alive. It's been quite a while since my last (tear-fuelled) post, and that's mainly been due to the general lack of things to talk about. All my shows have either ended forever (*cries*) or finished for the season, leaving me with very little to watch. Also, uni has unfortunately taken up quite a bit of my time lately, what with all of the usual last-minute rushing to finish essays and studying for exams, so everything has been pretty damn boring.

On a uni-related note, my first exam is on the 15th, and it's a 3 hour Psychology statistics exam worth 70% of our marks. Luckily I don't mind exams, and thank god it's all multiple choice. Thank you, Monash, for at least giving us that. My next two are the 23rd and 24th (I think), which isn't too bad, and after that I'm free for almost a month! How exciting!

Since LJ has been pretty quite of late, I've been spending a lot of time on Tumblr and my god, it is so addictive! I can spend hours and hours and hours on it and still not get bored. SO MANY PRETTY PICTURES. Take today's additions, for instance:

Keeley Hawes at the 2010 Glamour Women of the Year awardsCollapse )

I've recently been... *ahem* acquiring anything I can possibly find with Keeley in it. That's my holidays planned- an epic Keeley-related watch-a-thon, which should be, well... epic, I suppose. As for Ashes to Ashes, it seems that through some denial, a good deal of crying, and a healthy amount of fix-it fic (I especially recommend In Vino Veritas by the wonderful thisiszircon), I have begun to recover from the finale. As long as I don't think about it directly or, heaven forbid, actually attempt to rewatch it, I'm okay. Problem is, the show still has control over my brain and just won't let go! I'm gonna rewatch it as part of my Keeley-a-thon, and I've also been trying to do some picspams about the show, one of which is my favourite Alex outfits/looks. I have since discovered that it is IMPOSSIBLE TO CHOOSE. She looks so adorable and wonderful in everything she wears, meaning that I've narrowed it down to having a screencap of pretty much every outfit she wears. Not helpful... My lack of Photoshop skills are also proving rather problematic, so it'll be interesting to see if anything actually ends up getting done.

I never got around to saying what I thought of all the finales, and I won't bore you with long reviews. Briefly:
30 Rock: Ugh... Don't get me started. I mean, it was funny, but character/storyline-wise? Just rubbish. My Liz/Wesley love, however, is stronger than ever, so that's something.
Bones: Surprisingly good! I think it was a clever device that will allow them to change the dynamic of the show.
Brothers & Sisters: Meh. Guessed the ending about 10 minutes in.
Grey's Anatomy: Very, very epic, and very, very good. Possibly the best ep they've ever done- certainly the best in a long time.
Parks & Rec: Very funny, as usual. I'm so bummed we have to wait so long for it to come back!
The Office: Bo-ring. I'm so tired of this show. I'll keep watching, but I can safely say I don't care about any of the characters anymore.
As of now, I don't have much to watch, so if anyone has any recommendations TV-wise, I'd be very grateful!!!

Lastly, the World Cup is so damn close now, and I'm so excited! It's always such an incredible tournament, and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds. One thing I will miss from this tournament is Zinedine Zidane, because I'm so used to seeing him dominate World Cups (he's so incredible to watch), but you can't have everything, I suppose. I obviously should be supporting Australia, but in reality, because I watch so much of the Premier League, I'm actually a lot more attached to England's squad. I'd probably be shot by many Aussies for saying that, but it's true. In Australia, all of the games are on TV, but most start either at midnight or 4am, so I'll need to stock up on the coffee. It'll absolutely be worth it.

Okay, so after working so damn hard for so long to not get spoiled for the Ashes finale, the inevitable happened. I was sifting through my Google alerts and of course, I happened to stumble upon the Daily Mail spoilers. The picture came up in the email before I had the chance to exit the window. I didn't read the article, but the pictures were revealing enough! DAMN THEM AND THEIR EVILNESS. Seriously, I was so damn stupid to even look at my Google alerts in the first place. I've been good otherwise, and have avoided watching the trailer or preview or whatever it was that was released yesterday. It's so hard to resist the urge to look at spoilers. This wait for the finale is really killing me. I NEED TO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW. I'm seriously more excited about this than I have been about anything ever. I think Ashes to Ashes has officially taken up the mantle as my favourite show ever. I can't really think of any other show that's consistently made me feel the range of emotions and the sheer level of excitement that Ashes has. ♥
/waxing lyrical.

On to other things (which, in my Ashes-induced haze, I almost forgot about), I'm so pissed off with NBC over Parks and Rec. Seriously, it's one of the best shows going around, and they're doing this to it. I can't help but be pessimistic about its chances of survival now. Damn it, NBC, can you do anything right???

As for 30 Rock, sadly I feel like I'm starting to lose interest with the show. I mean, I still think it's hilarious, I'm just losing the emotional connection to the characters that I used to have. I'm finding pretty much all of the characters super-annoying lately, especially Jack. Somehow I can't seem to find Liz annoying, no matter what she does- Tina is just too adorable for me to ever dislike- but the whole Jack/Avery/Nancy thing is just aggravating me so damn much. I seriously want to punch Jack 99% of the time, no matter how hot he looks, and the storyline has dragged on for WAY too long. None of the other characters have been particularly engaging, either, to be honest.

Then there's this interview with Tina, which just makes me sad. I hate to say it, but my disillusionment with this show stems almost directly to the whole 'Jack and Liz will never, ever get together' thing. I hate to be one of those people who only loves a show because of a ship, but that's what's happened. Without the prospect of Jack/Liz, the show is just far less appealing. I just don't understand why they've put so much Jack/Liz stuff in previous episodes, only to say it will never happen and that it was never on the cards in the first place. Why do it, then? Why make Jack and Liz so obviously perfect for each other in every way, only to say that's it's never going to happen? SIGH x1000000.

While attempting to pass the time in between Ashes freakouts, I've been watching In Treatment. My mother's been recommending it to me forever, but I've only just got around to watching it and I have to say, I really love it! Every episode is just so fascinating, and the acting is just first-class. It's brilliantly constructed, and always leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend it!

I am in my Psych lab right now, and seriously, I have no idea what's going on. I'm getting worried about this class- it's all statistics and I am seriously, seriously lost. I'm going to have to do a huge amount of work to try and figure it out, especially with an assignment coming up.

So, typically, I've gone on Livejournal so I can try to ignore my impending doom. It works wonders, I've found.

Anway, on to lighter topics: Ashes to Ashes! I'll admit that I enjoyed this episode less than the first two, but it was still pretty damn brilliant.

Ashes to Ashes 3.03 thoughtsCollapse )

Just quickly, Doctor Who was on TV last night. I have to say, I was a tad underwhelmed. For some reason, I just couldn't seem to get into it at all. I think I'm about done with it now. I found I missed Ten/David so damn much. I don't like Moffatt either, which certainly didn't help.

As for other shows, I absolutely loved the Ugly Betty series finale. Granted, it was a little rushed, but that's understandable since they had their episode order cut and got told about being cancelled halway through the season. I just adored the way they demonstrated the character development, and how they handled the whole Daniel/Betty aspect. I cried about a zillion times. I'm really sad the show's over- generally, aside from probably season 3, it was a really wonderful show. I've always loved all of the characters, and the show's always been hilarious. Why do good shows have to end???

I'm so damn excited about 30 Rock being back on- and a double episode at that! The Jack/Liz high-five in the promo was the most adorable thing EVER.
